Las Vegas Replacing Street Lights with LED

LED lighting is becoming the norm in many places such as Las Vegas which is in the process of replacing all of the HPS (High Pressure Sodium) lights with LEDs.  The old lights created uneven lighting of the city blocks, as well as light pollution because of the glare of the lights.  Another problem with the HPS was that it did not render color well, which means that pedestrians wearing dark colors are harder to see.  The city will reduce power consumption by as much as 60 percent, which will save them approximately $2.7 million per year and will last much longer than the HPS lights.
